Osu Kannon's Gohonzon Ennichi: Pray for Good Fortune on New Year's Hatsukannon
Osu Kannon hosts its Gohonzon Ennichi every 18th. January 18th, Hatsukannon, is ideal for New Year's fortune. Special New Year's events including prayers and a fire festival are also held in early January.
Osu Kannon's Gohonzon Ennichi Every 18th
Osu Kannon in Nagoya City holds its Gohonzon Ennichi (special day for the principal image) every 18th of the month, celebrating its principal deity, Kannon Bodhisattva. The "Hatsukannon" on January 18th is a perfect opportunity to connect with the principal image at the start of the year and pray for good fortune.
Special New Year's Events
From January 1st to 3rd, various events are held for the New Year's visit, including "New Year's First Visit," "Gencho Goma" (morning goma ritual), and ringing the "Joyanokane" (year-end bell). The "New Year's Auspicious Goma Prayer Ceremony" is particularly recommended for praying for family safety, health, and warding off evil spirits.
On the second Monday of January (Coming of Age Day), the "Sagicho Fire Festival" is held to burn old talismans and New Year's decorations. A "Great Goma Wood" offering is also available for prayers for safety and prosperity.
