The Nagoya City Science Museum will host the "33rd Public Seminar: The Forefront of Astronomy - Approaching Life-Nurturing Planets" on Saturday, August 29, 2026. This annual summer lecture series, co-organized by Nagoya University's Graduate School of Science, the Institute for Space-Earth Environmental Research, and the Nagoya City Science Museum, brings together leading astronomers and physicists to present their research in an accessible format for the general public.

This year's theme, "Approaching Life-Nurturing Planets," will feature presentations by astronomers from Nagoya University and affiliated institutions on their latest findings. It offers a unique opportunity to learn directly from frontline researchers about the possibilities of extraterrestrial life and the characteristics of planets that could harbor it. The seminar is scheduled from 1:20 PM to 6:50 PM, with doors opening at 12:50 PM.
Format and Venue
The seminar will be conducted in a hybrid format, with both in-person and online participation options. In-person attendees will gather at the Science Hall and Planetarium in the basement of the Life Science Center at the Nagoya City Science Museum. Online participants will join via Zoom, requiring advance registration. The venue has a capacity for 200 in-person attendees and 1000 online participants.
Eligibility and Fees
The seminar is open to high school students and above. Junior high and elementary school students are welcome to attend if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
