Oasis 21 Sunday Atelier: Ethical SDGs Workshop - Fair Trade & Upcycling!
Ethical SDGs workshop at Oasis 21, Nagoya on Sep 13. Experience fair trade and upcycling. Open to all ages.
The Oasis 21 in Higashi-ku, Nagoya, will host the "Oasis 21 Sunday Atelier," an ethical SDGs workshop.
This workshop aims to deepen understanding of ethical consumption and SDGs through hands-on activities for all ages, under the theme "Kind to the World, Fun for the Region, Beautiful for the Future." It is held on the second Sunday of every month.
The workshop focuses on "Fair Trade x Upcycling x Local Traditional Industries" with various programs:
- Sodateru LABO (Bamboo Crafts): Create "kendama" (cup-and-ball game) or "bamboo brushes" while learning about bamboo issues. Fee: 500 yen. Duration: approx. 20 mins.
- From Seeds to Roots and Leaves (Flower Arrangement): Make "frame art" using lost flowers, seasonal organic flowers, shells, nuts, and fabric scraps. Fee: 1,500 yen. Duration: 20 mins~.
- Wood and Thread manamana (Woodworking & String Art): Craft a "fragrant forest wreath" with cedar and cypress shavings, or create "small string art" using waste materials. Fee: 800-1,500 yen. Duration: 20 mins~.
- Sugiyama Jogakuen University (Upcycled Accessories/Goods): Design accessories and miscellaneous goods using fabric and thread from "Takisada Nagoya," a local textile company. Fee: 500-1,000 yen. Duration: 15 mins.
- DIY & FAB GIFT (Woodworking): Build a "wooden rubber band gun" using Aichi prefecture lumber and construction site scraps (for children). Fee: 1,000 yen. Duration: 40 mins~.
Regular menu items include creating a "maze" or "monsters" from scraps. Fees range from 500 to 1,000 yen, with durations of 30-40 minutes.
Upcycling means giving new value to used or unused materials through design and ingenuity.
The venue is the sub-space at the northeast corner of the Galaxy Plaza (B1F) in Oasis 21. Participation is free and open to everyone, making it a great outing for families and friends.
