KOUGEI EXPO in KANAGAWA at PACIFICO YOKOHAMA, Nov 7-9, 2026

The "KOUGEI EXPO in KANAGAWA / 43rd National Convention of Traditional Crafts Month" will be held at PACIFICO YOKOHAMA from November 7th to 9th, 2026. This major event, the first of its kind in Kanagawa Prefecture, showcases Japan's traditional crafts. It features innovative initiatives, including collaborations with popular games and integration with GREEN×EXPO 2027, making it a must-visit exhibition.

Featured Collaboration: KOUGEI x "Touken Ranbu ONLINE"
A special gallery will be set up, featuring a collaboration between the highly popular online game "Touken Ranbu ONLINE" (over 15 million users) and traditional Kanagawa crafts. Six "sword men" characters from the game will be paired with three of Kanagawa's renowned traditional crafts. This unique fusion promises to attract new audiences and highlight the beauty of traditional crafts in a modern context. Details will be announced later.

Live Demonstrations and Workshops
Experience the artistry of master craftspeople firsthand. Artisans specializing in "Kamakura-bori" (Kamakura carving), "Hakone Yosegi-Zaiku" (Hakone marquetry), and "Odawara Lacquerware" will conduct live demonstrations of their techniques. Visitors will also have the opportunity to participate in workshops, offering a hands-on understanding of these ancient crafts.

Kanagawa's Designated Traditional Crafts
The exhibition will highlight three key traditional crafts designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry:

• Kamakura-bori: A robust lacquerware craft with over 800 years of history, originating from influences brought from China during the Kamakura period.
• Hakone Yosegi-Zaiku: A unique Japanese marquetry technique, creating intricate geometric patterns using the natural colors of various wood species.
• Odawara Lacquerware: Characterized by its "suritsuke" technique, which involves repeatedly applying raw lacquer to highlight the beautiful grain of zelkova wood.

Special Guests
Actor Mayu Hotta and actor Hayato Isomura are scheduled to appear as special guests, adding star power to the event.
